Exploring CELL
How do I move around on a phone or tablet?
Open a cell from the home screen or collection. Drag with one finger to orbit, move two fingers together to pan, and pinch to zoom. Tap a structure or its label to see its description.
The circular arrow in the toolbar resets the view. Gestures over a tooltip or toolbar interact with that control rather than the model behind it.
What are the mouse controls on Mac?
- Left-click and drag to orbit the cell.
- Right-click or middle-click and drag to pan.
- Scroll up to zoom in and down to zoom out.
- Click a visible structure or its label to inspect it.
Press Space to play or pause an available animation. Esc closes the collection or goes back from the current view.
How do Focus and Isolate work?
Select a structure to open its description. Focus moves the camera closer to it. Isolate shows that structure on its own. If a deeper scene is available, an Explore button opens it.
Choose Full cell in Explore structures to return to the complete specimen. The reset arrow also restores the cell’s initial view and closes open menus.
How do I see inside a cell?
Choose the eye icon in the toolbar to open Presentation. Pick Exterior, Transparent, Cutaway, or Interior to change how the model is shown. Use the label icon to show structure names.
How do the animations work?
Use the play triangle in the toolbar to start a biological sequence. Press pause to hold the current moment. You can still rotate and zoom while exploring the process. Animation controls appear on scenes that have a sequence.
How do I browse other cells?
Choose Browse all 14 cells from the home page. Select a category or scroll the category row horizontally to see more filters. Scroll the collection vertically and choose a specimen.
Does CELL need an internet connection?
The atlas, models, descriptions, and animations work offline. An internet connection is needed to open the external scientific references or contact support.
Which platforms is CELL built for?
CELL is built for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Android. Check the store listing on your device for current availability and compatibility.
About the models
CELL is an educational visual atlas. Models and animations simplify shapes, scale, proportions, and timing; they are not exact reconstructions of individual living cells. Some structures and stages are omitted for clarity.
Use the information button on a specimen to read its notes, limitations, and scientific sources. CELL is not intended for diagnosis or treatment.
Something looks wrong?
Try the reset arrow, return to the collection, or reopen the app. If the issue persists, send us the details. For a mislabeled structure or scientific correction, include the cell name, structure, and a reference if you have one.
